🎬 Vlog Post | Five Quick Stress Busters (Stress Management Vlog Series)
Stress Management Blog Series

Stress is a natural physiological occurrence that we all can experience when we feel threatened, frightened, or even overwhelmed. When we become stressed, we can be quick to anger, we tend to become frustrated with the little things, and we may even let the stress build up to the point where we lash out or say hurtful things we don’t really mean to the people we love.
While we can all experience stress to our breaking points, how we react in our stressful situations is the key to our success. How do you handle it when your plans fall through or when life throws you a curveball? Do you roll with the punches? Or does anxiety keep you from enjoying life?
When life starts getting to be too chaotic, here are 5 things that you can do to help keep your stress under control:
Get a Good Night’s Sleep It’s very common in our society to exist on less than 6 hours of sleep a night, but experts recommend 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Not just to rest our bodies, but to rejuvenate our minds. Sleeping is the time for our bodies to not only rest, but to heal.
Turn it Off The conveniences that cell phones and other handheld devices have added to our lives can actually be a double-edged sword. We depend on them so much that it seems we can’t live without them. Our minds are constantly filled with news, social media, emails, advertising, etc. that it is nearly impossible for us to settle our minds down. To avoid sensory overload, try putting your phone down at least 30 minutes before bed.
Take a Vacation When life gets super busy, it seems like the worst time to take a break, but it’s actually when you need it the most! You don’t have to go away on some fancy or expensive vacation. A day at the beach, an afternoon at the park, or an overnight at a local bed and breakfast will do. Pick some place where you don’t have to think about the bills, work, or whatever other stressors you may have. It’s important to take time for yourself, so make time for it!
Cut Out the Junk If you're like most people, you keep possessions well beyond their usefulness. But did you know that clutter can actually cause stress and anxiety even if you consider your items to be an ‘organized mess.’ Keep your desk organized, your living space clutter-free, and your mind free of unhelpful or negative thoughts. To start ridding yourself of the clutter in your life, consider selling or donating old appliances, clothing, furniture, and other items that you no longer use. A good rule of thumb is that if you haven’t used the item within the last 6 months, you likely don’t need it.
Meditate Meditating presents a wide range of benefits, including better health, improved mood, deeper restorative sleep, and decreased stress and anxiety, as well as more energy, vitality, and focus. When you notice yourself getting stressed, stop what you are doing for a few minutes and take a quick meditation break. Go for a short walk, sit outside under a tree, meditate, breathe deeply, and focus on your physical sensations; What do you hear? What do you see? What do you smell? etc., or try this Mindfulness Meditation to Relieve Stress.
