🎬Vlog Post | Ready, Set, Change! (Positive Motivation Vlog Series)

CHa... Cha... Cha... Changes

Change is never easy, especially when it requires us to dramatically alter the way we’ve become accustomed to living our lives. Leaving our comfort zone, no matter how much we dislike it, requires a combination of bravery and determination, as well as education in that area.

We are often so desperate to better ourselves that we hastily make ineffective and, sometimes expensive, decisions that we feel will quickly produce the results we are looking for. Purchasing a costly gym membership and vowing to attend seven days a week while surviving on lettuce, may seem like a great idea for a few weeks (if you’re very determined,) but how long can you live like that?

If you’re serious about making a long-term change in your life, be sure to take these following steps to ensure your success:

1) Educate Yourself

Aside from determination, education is the most important key to your success. Knowing exactly what you must do to accomplish your goals will empower you to make them a reality. Consult a professional or check out a book written by a credible authority on the subject. You can also tap into the wealth of information that can be found on the Internet. Friends and acquaintances can also provide valuable insight. For example, my boyfriend excels in his organization skills, an area in which I am always trying to improve. He has helped me find much-needed solutions for organization and storage. Over the years, I have even learned a great deal just from watching him, and also by asking questions.

2) Find Your WHY

Remember that most people don’t usually change unless they are pushed to do so. Just being unhappy at your job or wanting more out of your relationship might not be enough to make you want to change your situation. YOU have to want to change and be willing to put in the necessary work, or you may slide back into old habits. Change requires us to push ourselves to strive for our desired outcomes. It’s critical that you know your WHY. Why do you want to change? What is your ulterior motive for enacting change? By identifying your WHY, you can remember the reasons you are working towards something better. Write down your WHY and whenever you need a reminder, you can motivate yourself by remembering all the reasons you want your goal.

3) Set Reasonable Goals

You are not going to lose 30 pounds in two weeks, nor are you going to undo years of financial irresponsibility in six months. However, after doing your research, you can maintain a realistic picture of how long it will be before you should expect to see results. Having this knowledge upfront will prevent you from becoming demotivated or having unrealistic expectations.

4) Plan and Track

If you’re trying to accomplish something that requires long-term commitment, purchase a journal or a notebook to write down your short and long-term goals. Write down as much detail as you can and describe how you will carry out each goal, along with a deadline in which you will complete them. Check each item off as you accomplish it. Keeping a journal to record your achievements can be very motivating on those days when you feel like sliding back into your old ways.

5) Just Say No

No is one of the most powerful words we have at our disposal. There is an incredible amount of power in saying no to things that don’t serve you. In fact, saying yes when we really mean no can lead to resentment, frustration, confusion, and dissatisfaction, or worse. When it comes to accomplishing your goals, you should avoid people and situations that will take your focus away or prevent you from working toward self-improvement. This is especially important in the beginning before your new way of life becomes natural to you. If you have difficulty saying no, start practicing on small things at first to gain confidence in asserting your “no”.

6) Pat Yourself on the Back

Be proud of yourself for making the decision to improve your quality of life. When you reach important milestones, don’t forget to reward yourself in a way that is in sync with your new lifestyle. A new outfit is a great reward for losing weight, but would be considered a setback if you’re trying to cut back on spending. Making your reward system personal and in alignment with your goals will guarantee that you are set up for success.

Overcoming Your Fear of Change

Change is often feared because it’s the unknown. It’s in our human nature to be afraid when we don’t know the outcome of something. However, when we are knowledgeable and prepared for possible outcomes and problems that may arise, our fears can greatly be abated. The next time you are facing change, follow these steps so you can bravely make progress toward your goals.
