Avoid Burn Out


Being a small business owner often means wearing a number of different hats. How many of you act as the CEO, the general manager, the accountant, the salesperson, the computer technician, the secretary, the receptionist, etc.?


Many entrepreneurs try to chase too many targets at once and end up overwhelmed rather than focusing on what really matters. They spend all their energy carrying out daily tasks leaving little time for the most important thing - themselves! Not to mention that at the end of the day, they lack the energy and time for doing things that they enjoy for some much-needed stress relief, eventually leading to burn out.


To avoid this, spend some time focusing on what areas in your life you would like to improve and decide which strategies will be most helpful in obtaining your desired outcome. In order to grow and succeed in either your personal or professional life, you first need to have a crystal-clear idea of what you want to do and where you want to go. In other words, have you defined your objectives? And more importantly, have you put them in writing?


Writing your goals on a weekly basis and being very specific in each area of your life gives you the opportunity to create strategic decisions about your life, while allowing you to prioritize and make room for new habits, people, and situations that align with your core beliefs.





Your Dreams Can Become a Reality


The good news is this: You already have all the tools needed to succeed!


When you write your objectives on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis it makes you actually work on them and act faster. But the trick is to state exactly what you want. If you are not specific and just say, “I will have more money, or I will have more happiness,” then yes, these things will come, but the question is ‘when’? You don’t have any deadline to accomplish them! But if you make a specific goal that by June 30th, you will have saved $1,000 dollars, or if you schedule time in your planner to have more fun, then you are much more likely to achieve your goals.


I recently polled some of my clients, asking them what their goals are for the next 30 days. Some answered without hesitation while others had to think about it. And somebody told me, “Thanks for reminding me that I need to work on my goals, I had actually forgotten about it.”


I found that the best way of incorporating time for your objectives into your schedule is to set up an appointment with yourself. And whatever happens, never cancel this appointment. Make a decision that once a month or once a week you will spend an hour or two working on your goals.

Now, dive a bit deeper into your answers. Take the time to think about the outcome you want from each life area, then plan out each step necessary that will help you achieve the desired outcomes.


Remember that you should be your strongest ally and your best friend. You should not neglect yourself or your dreams. When life gets busy, we often tend to put our own needs on the backburner. However, this is the one thing we absolutely should not do! If your car runs low on fuel, you make sure to fill-up, or you’ll end up stranded. But when we ourselves run out of fuel, many of us don’t stop to fill-up until it’s too late. Lastly, it’s also important to remember that man cannot live by bread alone. While we all have basic needs, human beings have an innate desire to connect with other humans, to learn and grow from their environments, and to find purpose and meaning.
